Feng Shui - The Five Elements

    Wood, fire, earth, metal, and water are the basic energetic categories in feng shui. Each element is distinguished by a characteristic shape, colors, and set of attributes. These represent a different aspect of your life.

    The Fire Element

      • Expansive, spreading movement
      • Transformative and changeable
      • Warm/kind to hot/passionate
      • Triangular shapes
      • Reds and oranges

    The Earth Element

      • Stable, grounding, little to no movement
      • Centered and nurturing
      • Square and rectangular shapes
      • Browns, tans, ochre and yellows

    The Wood Element

      • Growing upward moving energy
      • Vital and active
      • New growth, flexible like bamboo
      • Columnar shapes
      • Greens, mid-blues and teals

    The Water Element

      • Deep, still and wise or flowing, circulating and connecting
      • Cool and dark
      • Clarity and wisdom
      • Formless and undulating
      • Black, dark gray and dark blue

    The Metal Element

      • Contracting and rigid
      • Righteous and correct
      • Circles, spheres
      • White, metallic and pale greys and blues

    How to Know if You're Missing an Element

    Take a look at your life and see if there are any areas that feel out of balance. If you feel like you're lacking in one aspect, chances are you're missing the element that represents that area. Below are some of the most common problems that could signal the element you are missing:

    Lack of Fire

      • Low energy level
      • Lack of passion
      • Low self-esteem
      • Little happiness

    Lack of Wood

      • Stagnant growth
      • Unclear goals
      • Difficulty manifesting

    Lack of Earth

      • Unstable foundation
      • Lack of support
      • Excessive worry
      • Feeling lost or not grounded

    Lack of Metal

      • Disorganization
      • Difficulty focusing

    Lack of Water

    I love the way of looking at your environment in terms of the earth's elements. I can also see where I need to make some changes based on your list. This is probably why people do so well when they take vacations.....you generally have all of those elements in you environment which makes vacations peaceful.
