Wood, fire, earth, metal, and water are the basic energetic categories in feng shui. Each element is distinguished by a characteristic shape, colors, and set of attributes. These represent a different aspect of your life.
The Fire Element
- Expansive, spreading movement
- Transformative and changeable
- Warm/kind to hot/passionate
The Earth Element
- Stable, grounding, little to no movement
- Square and rectangular shapes
- Browns, tans, ochre and yellows
The Wood Element
- Growing upward moving energy
- New growth, flexible like bamboo
- Greens, mid-blues and teals
The Water Element
- Deep, still and wise or flowing, circulating and connecting
- Black, dark gray and dark blue
The Metal Element
- White, metallic and pale greys and blues
How to Know if You're Missing an Element
Take a look at your life and see if there are any areas that feel out of balance. If you feel like you're lacking in one aspect, chances are you're missing the element that represents that area.
